FAQ's
- Should I wear a bathing suit? Participating children should wear bathing suits and expect to get wet! All stations in, on, and around the water, children will be wearing Coast Guard-approved lifejackets and will participate with staff and volunteers in the water. Parents do not need to wear bathing suits and should not expect to get wet.
- How do I know where to go? Upon your entry, a passport will be given to each participating child. The passport is complete with a station list and station map. You are also welcome to ask any staff member for assistance.
- Is there an order of stations I need to participate in? No, there are stations throughout the Aquatic Complex, and participants need to participate in all of them to complete the station passport, but it does not matter what order things are done in. Each station is under 15 minutes of education.
- Are the slides open at the event? No, April Pools' Day is a Water Safety Education Event and will not have ‘Free Play’. No play amenities will be open or available.
- After I complete the rotations, will there be free play or what do I get? Participating children will receive 1 voucher per completed passport. This voucher is a one-time use pass and will give access to Open Swim during our posted Open Swim times for the 2025 Season.
- Can I bring a child that is 3 years or younger? Why not? While our younger friends can attend, participants should be 4 years and older to participate successfully and independently in the water safety education lessons.
- Will there be food? Yes! Chick-Fil-A will be on-site selling a limited option menu. Limited concessions and non-alcoholic beverages will also be available for sale.
- Is this open to non-residents? Yes! Drowning is the leading cause of accidental death in children! We need to educate and teach all our young ones and their families the importance of water safety.
- Where to park? As parking is limited due to the Burns Road Community Center, parking lot, and playground construction. Participants can park in the Lakeside Center parking lot to the west of the existing playground. Participants may utilize the Gardens Park/City Hall parking lot for overflow parking.
- Can I register for swim lessons onsite? As part of the event, participants will be given an on-site swim assessment. You may visit the front desk of the Aquatic Complex to register for swim lessons on site, or complete registration for swimming lessons online.
